Victory Breakfast: Cereal with a side of Rebels

Volleyball comes out with a third win against San Lorenzo.

On September 8, both JV and Varsity girls’ volleyball dominated San Lorenzo. The JV game was a quick two matches, 25-6 and 25-17. During the first game JV got some powerful kills by Sophomores Samantha Navarro and Lauren Cooper, and Freshmen Madi Fremont. In the second game both Navarro and Sophomore Emily Lopez served aces. Serving machines, Sophomore Alicia Wong served 3 aces and Fremont served a whopping 6 in a row.

Varsity volleyball took down the rebels in 3 games bringing another win for the evening! The scores of the three games of the match were 25-9, 25-8, and 25-16. Varsity was on fire throughout the game with Senior Co-Captain Jinny Yan leading the pack with 11 kills, 2 digs, and 6 aces, and Senior Co-Captain Ashley Torres playing the assisting role with 14 assists, and 5 aces, Senior Danielle Hubacek with 5 kills, and Senior Sarah Hardin with 4 kills.
On September 6th, Irvington played their preseason rival, Moreau Catholic High School. Although last year Irvington’s varsity team lost to Moreau in 5 games, the players shockingly took Moreau down in 3 intense matches. The scores were 25-18, 25-23, and 25-22. No one, not even the coaches, expected to win in 3 games. They knew that they had to work hard, because they loss of important seniors from the year before and also that they were ranked lower than Moreau. You can tell the Vikings are hungry for another MVAL championship based on how hard they are working together.
