When I was running to be ASG president, the basis of my aspirations was why not? Even if I didn’t win, I knew that at the start of election week, I would put all of my efforts into it.
I think this position is the best position for me. I can focus on passing down my skills and knowledge to whoever will take over after me and explore my potential without getting too comfortable. I ran because there were a lot of internal changes that I wanted to make for the class, and I believe that ASG president is the best position for me to establish those changes and actually carry them out.
Some of these changes are things that need to be implemented from the beginning of the year, and from my three years in ASG I know that these changes will be positive for the school.
Going into next year, I’m grateful for being elected. I didn’t expect myself to win because I keep to myself a lot, but I got a surprising amount of support throughout the week. Seeing people who I haven’t talked to before or have had minimal interactions repost my stories was really moving, and I’m really grateful for everyone who supported my campaign.
My main goals for my campaign were consistent communication and increasing recognition. I
want to reduce last-minute notices, utilize more platforms to publicize events, and improve ASG’s consistency. Increasing recognition means recognizing the student body’s feedback, and also representing students on campus. I don’t believe that one group can accurately represent the matter as a whole, so I want to collaborate with more people to help reach the student groups that our events don’t cover.
I’ve now been ASG for three years, and have seen immense leadership and personal growth from my experiences in it. I’m really excited to continue working with a group of passionate and dedicated individuals in ASG, and I’m excited for what next year brings!
