Many high school students pursue singing, art, cooking, or blogging. Meanwhile, junior Atul Mavuduru runs his own online jewelry store.

Mavuduru’s jewelry’s store, the Silverstone is run through the online website: thesilverstone.co. Mavuduru creates custom-made jewelry, some of which include solid gold necklaces with anchor pendants, silver rings, and mini cuban bracelets.

Mavuduru started this business during his sophomore year, and used money from other previous smaller businesses of his to collect funds to start his current business. He helped push his business further by publicizing his jewelry in fashion forums and websites. Because of his increasing popularity, Mavaduru met with Youtubers, designers, and other famous people.

“I came up with the idea after people were asking me where they could get the pieces that I wore,” Mavuduru said. “I started selling some small pieces here and there online and they kept selling out. I went ahead and started a brand around it at that point.”

Mavuduru’s parents are both small business owners, which inspired him to create his own business; however, he learned to manage his brand himself. His product is inspired by his personal style and he designs jewelry that he would wear himself.

“It is definitely difficult to juggle school and business at the same time,” Mavuduru said. “I just try to manage my day hour by hour and keep track of progress as I go.”

Mavuduru wishes to continue his business for a while and possibly enter a new market later on where he can use what he learned with his current store in the future.

“My biggest struggle is just the ongoing drive to grow it as much as I can,” Mavuduru said. “Obviously with any business, small problems arise here and there but nothing is big enough to take my focus off of growth.”

He has some struggles with growing his business, but manages it pretty well by working on improving daily.

“My favorite parts of running the business is creating the jewelry, meeting new people through my work, and receiving the positive feedback I get from my customers,” Mavuduru said.
