Vikings face off against Washington Tennis

On Tuesday, Irvington’s boys tennis team faced off against Washington. It was the second time Irvington played Washington this season; the Vikings were determined to win once again. The Vikings dominated Washington, sweeping both Varsity and Junior Varisty games. The team had prepared for this match for weeks, alternating its practices to condition its players for the game . These changes include drills that work on volleying and ground strokes as well as exercises that improve the team’s overall stamina. “Our conditioning made us fit to prove ourselves once again against them this time.” said Tennis Captain Kevin Chen. Irvington’s varsity line up consisted of Junior Kevin Chen, Senior Xuchen Hu, Junior Prithvi Bomdica, and Senior Salil Babbar. While the Varsity doubles team consisted of Sophomore Nicholas Yuk with Junior Tony Lin, Freshman Douglas Yuk with Freshman Victor Feng, and Junior Joe Garcia with Freshman Josh Lin. Irvington’s Boy Tennis hopes to keep the momentum going from this win and continue into their next match against their rival school, Mission San Jose High School. “I feel like this game has given us the confidence that our team needs to overcome the mental wall against Mission. I am looking forward to that match” comments Senior Salil Babbar. The Vikings will face off against the Mission Warriors on Wednesday, April 14th.
