    Awards Season Guide and Preview

    Get ready for Hollywood’s biggest wins and snubs of the year

    If you have not already, it is time to unroll the red carpets and turn on the spotlights; awards season has begun and is rolling along! Here is a quick guide to everything you should know and be watching for during this year’s recognition of excellent motion picture.

    The People’s Choice Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Golden Globes have already announced their winners, but upcoming awards include the British Academy Film Awards, the Golden Raspberry Awards, and the Academy Awards.

    The British Academy Film Awards is the British version of the Academy Awards and will present its winners at the Royal Opera House in London on February 10. Skyfall has received a pleasantly surprising eight nominations, including “Outstanding British Film,” but Daniel Craig missed the nomination for “Best Actor.”

    Scheduled the day before the Academy Awards, the Golden Raspberry Awards, or “the Razzies,” is a spoof of the awards ceremonies and presents awards such as Worst Film and Worst Actress. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 received a nomination in every category. Tyler Perry notably received nominations for both Worst Actor and Worst Actress for cross-dressing in Madea’s Witness Protection.

    The Academy Awards, held on February 24, is the grand finale of the awards season. This year’s favorite contenders for “Best Picture” include Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, which has 12 nominations, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, with 11 nominations, and the musical phenomenon Les Miserables, with eight nominations.

    As the announced winners start coming in, film critics and aficionados across the globe are debating and anticipating which films will triumph at the awards.
