Opinion: Two Rallies is Not the Way to Go

One unified rally is better than two separate

By Channing Whitaker | Staff Writer

New for Irvington this school year, spirit rallies are going to be separated into two sessions instead of one big assembly due to the enrollment of an additional 200 freshmen.

ASB Rally Commissioner Rahul Kasar, a senior, explained, “The rallies will be split up by department, but each rally will be split differently in order for everyone to have a chance to interact with their friends and different groups.”

Depending on your teacher, it would be possible for you to go to the first rally session on a rally day but, for the next rally, you might end up going to the second session.

Two rallies will decrease our school spirit and unity as one Viking family. With the rallies being separated into two windows, the opportunity to meet up with friends becomes very slim. On the other hand though, the two rally system will prevent overcrowding in the hallways going to and from the main gym. Although it makes sense to have two separate rallies for accommodating the extra incoming freshmen, an over packed rally with an electric atmosphere would be worth it. That would totally make our school spirit and unity 10 times better instead of 10 times worse.
