Irvington’s HOSA (Future Health Professionals) club began publishing a bimonthly, private newsletter. Located on their website, the newsletter is part of a year-long, chapter project, HOSA Happenings. The bulletin will cover recent and upcoming events, include some medical-themed activities, and honor the achievements of its members.
The newsletter, targeted towards HOSA’s current and prospective members, will be solely distributed electronically. However, a hard copy will be required when it is evaluated at the HOSA National Leadership Conference in April. Submissions will be judged for the newsletter’s general appearance, content and quality, organization, and mechanics.
The newspaper currently contains an introduction and three sections: humor, events, and interviews. The introduction explains the purpose of HOSA and lists the officers and their positions. The humor section consists of medical related crossword puzzles and comics. The events section lists upcoming HOSA events, and the interview section contains an article describing several member’s experiences at the HOSA State Leadership Conference.
The first issue is currently only 3 pages but senior Aayush Sharma, president of HOSA, believes it will develop further.
“We plan to expand it when there are more events,” Sharma said. Although directed by the chapter historian, the newsletter was a collaborative effort, with 6-7 officers working on it over the past summer. Sharma said, “The first issue took a couple weeks to produce. It’s thanks to the huge group effort that it turned out so great.”
Any regular club members looking to contribute might have a chance in the future. “Right now it’s only divided among the officers”, said senior Shrey Samdani, vice president of competition in HOSA, “but we might bring in some regular members as well.”
