“Multiverse of Madness” Exceeds Expectation
Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” released May 6, 2022 in theaters worldwide. Starring Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), and Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), the story follows America Chavez and Doctor Strange through the multiverse.
During Phase 4, Marvel has been building the ideas and expansion of the multiverse with other series like “Loki”, “WandaVision”, “What If”, and “Spiderman: No Way Home.”
In “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” we last saw Dr. Stephen Strange casually rearranging the fabric of reality so Peter Parker might resume his peaceful life. However, his spell unintentionally ushered in a new era of Marvel blockbusters centered on parallel universes colliding. Because films and television series cross over so frequently, this is just as confusing for fans as it is for the characters. It also makes references to two Disney Plus television shows: “Loki” who unleashed the multiverse, while “WandaVision”’s titular character Wanda, who trapped a town in a comedy and gave birth to magical children. With all these factors in play, Doctor Strange 2 makes for the strangest Marvel movie yet.
The film uses the multiverse concept to go big with appearances and twists on Marvel lore. Olsen shines as Wanda as she transforms into the Scarlet Witch, the super-sorceress who is on the same mission from WandaVision: to be with her family. She is a fearsome force when her powers are unleashed, but she is also a sympathetic and tragic woman. Cumberbatch is enjoyable as the likable and charismatic Strange, but he’s not the most interesting character in this film. His relationship with Christine Palmer appears to be something that Strange has always wanted, but their chemistry is rather inert compared to what’s going on around them. America Chavez introduces a new character to the cinematic universe, showing the strength and overall power that she holds, but her character lacks depth. Most of the characters’ missions rely on one aspect, to get the magical book of the Vishanti to help navigate the multiverse.
The entire movie was very thrilling. While watching there were no dull moments. The entire plot of the movie kept the audience very captivated. With multiple jumpscares and crazy plot twists, the Multiverse of Madness is the Marvel movie the fans have been waiting for.
The movie leads with suspense and scares the audience. The movie leaves the audience with tears in their eyes and their jaws on the floor. There was big character development with a lot of call backs to old marvel fans including a lot of marvel lore. With the Multiverse of Madness as a starting point, Marvel will continue to change and evolve around the multiverse.
