The Philadelphia Eagles crushing the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-7, and the Kansas City Chiefs edging out the Cincinnati Bengals by 23-20, means that the Super Bowl next sunday will be played between the Eagles and Chiefs.
Both teams are very solid, and the Chiefs have been dominating the season, with 14 wins and 3 losses in the regular season, and are led by a sensational quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles on the other hand are also top of their league, with a 14-3 record. The Eagles in turn also have their own brilliant quarterback, Jalen Hurts, who was even able to score 1 touchdown against the 49ers.
The Chiefs’ regular season was nothing short of spectacular, and started with an unexpected trade of their star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. However this trade turned out to be beneficial for the Chiefs, as it allowed them more space for new draft picks. Since then the Chiefs have dominated the league, having the highest average points in a game, with 28.2. Patrick Mahomes looks like he is on a run to win MVP, with 648 passing attempts, 5,250 passing yards, and 41 touchdowns after his pass, leading the entire league in almost all of those stats.
However, the Eagles can not be counted out of contention either, with an incredibly unexpected and amazing season. The Eagles have had the best season they ever have, winning 14 games, scoring 477 points, and most importantly, winning the NFC championship. Jalen Hurts looks like another MVP candidate, and his teammates performed well as well, with AJ Brown, forming an unstoppable duo, with AJ alone having 1,496 receiving yards this season.
The Eagles’ game against the 49ers started off disastrously for the 49ers. The 49ers unexpected star quarterback, the last pick of the 2022 draft, Brock Purdy, was injured. The 49ers main quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo was also injured, forcing them to play Josh Johnson, who was severely underprepared. Purdy was having an surprising season with the 49ers, from a backup quarterback, to leading the 49ers to the NFC championship game, and his injury sealed the deal for the 49ers. Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers running back, was able to secure one touchdown after evading multiple tackles. The Eagles however, were able to prevent the 49ers from scoring again, and scored 31 points, demolishing the 49ers 31-7.
The Chiefs’ game against the Bengals seemed as though it would go similarly, with the Bengals’ star quarterback Joe Burrow being sacked multiple times, and the score going to 10-0. The Bengals came back to tie the score at 20-20, however it seemed as though Joe Burrow was facing difficulties with his receivers, and the Chiefs were able to secure the win 23-20. However, during this game many questionable officiating decisions were made, including giving the Chiefs a redo on a 3rd down for apparently no reason. Regardless, it was clear the Chiefs were the better team and were bound to win. The Chiefs however, suffered multiple injuries, with Mahomes playing with a sprained ankle, and multiple other mainly offensive players injured.
The Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Eagles will be a very close game, that could honestly go either way. The Chiefs have overcome many hurdles to get to this point, and have dominated the AFC, while the Eagles have done the same with the NFC. However, the Eagles seem like they have the upper hand to win the Super Bowl, with much of the Chiefs’ offense out on injury. The Eagles show that they can and easily will upset fan favorite teams like the 49ers, and possibly the Chiefs.
This NFL season has been one for the record books, and regardless of the winner of the Super Bowl, both teams performed extremely well. No matter the result, this has been one of the most entertaining seasons ever.
