The nonprofit I founded is called the Unity Aid Project, where our goal is to fundraise in order to donate medical equipment to homeless shelters and hospitals. We’re still working on these fundraisers, and we also do informational posts on various health topics. We’ve done posts on first aid kits, one on wound treatment, and one on how to prevent yourself from contracting infectious diseases.
The idea for Unity Aid started because I’ve always been interested in the medical field and helping others. Initially, one of the most challenging parts of starting this organization was finding other officers and people to help me, as well gaining viewership and a following on our social media.
For me, I’ve been able to manage this organization and school well. It’s pretty simple, because now that I have an officer team, I have people I can delegate work to. This has made it easier for me to manage my workload.
There’s a lot more to starting an organization than just for the sake of putting it on your college applications. It’s really about having an impact and making a difference in the community. In the future when I leave for college, this is something that I want to keep working on.
We’re still a relatively new organization, but we have some upcoming plans for this year. Currently, our organization is working to do a fundraiser event, which will be at either Krispy Kreme or Chipotle. Right now, we’re also planning on hosting a library event where we’re doing an educational presentation as well as some fun activities.
