The subjects I teach are English, World History, US History, and Government and Econ. I worked with general education kids for about 10 years and it was when I started subbing for special classes in Fremont that I realized the need for more special education teachers. I got my second credential teaching special education students and I have always felt welcome and included in this environment.
My favorite part about working with students is seeing their progress. I work with 10th to 12th graders, and when I see them graduate, I feel very happy for them. In my classroom, I try to make the Quest project career-based so it is more focused on the kinds of careers my students want to pursue in the future.
To accommodate my classroom to meet the needs of my students, I provide step by step instructions for many tasks. We usually divide bigger tasks into smaller steps with due dates to help them keep track of their work. And to help my students be engaged in class, I consistently encourage them. I also tell them that they are working for themselves and that they should utilize valuable time in their classes. We only have one life and we need to make full use of that.
