What’s the worst possible Irvington event you can think of? Certainly, it has to be Irvington’s voice taking over SF Chronicle as an ordinary school field trip.
The previous day, the students packed their bags, getting ready for the long day ahead of them. At around 8:30 am on October 29, 2024, they took the BART, arriving in San Francisco around 10:00 am. The BART ride to San Francisco was a mix of squeals, screams, partying, napping, and an accumulation of strange noises. Loudly but somehow neatly, they got off the train and exited the station in an orderly fashion.
As soon as the Voice stepped foot onto the nostalgic streets of San Francisco, they caught sight of the building and stormed right in. Originally as a learning field trip to meet and greet actual journalists, things take a turn for the worst as things quickly become chaotic. Not long after The Voice had made their grand entrance, things quickly escalated downhill.
Papers were flying around, alarms were blaring, tables were flipped upside down, donut crumbs were everywhere, people were being evacuated, and even the manager was sobbing. Poor guy, he couldn’t even take the first sip of his morning coffee before it was knocked out of his hand by a flying donut. “I was just minding my own business, working on another article that I had not finished, when suddenly the door burst open, and I saw three rows of kids storm right in. They could’ve at least knocked”, says a burnt-out journalist, Kevin Fagan. The entire event lasted approximately 15 minutes, and only a handful of survivors were confirmed. Aspiring wine critic Esther Mobley recalls, “I thought I would never see the light of the day after what happened. I’m still thankful for this day that I escaped from there.” An outside bystander, Kevin Fagan jokingly stated, “You don’t even need to go all the way to a zoo, just come to SF Chronicle! You’ll even see the endangered ones.”
That’s not even the worst part. To add fuel to the already burning fire, The Voice missed their bart ride back, by just 20 seconds. So, all they could do was cry in silence as they had to wait another 30 minutes for the next one to come. At last, after 2 hours, this group of troubled individuals had finally made it back home, marking the end of a hectic day.
Not long after the terrible incident, SF Chronicle released a new issue covering the entire event, from the get-go to the ta-da. Overall, the aftermath of the Sf Chronicle Takeover is still ongoing, leaving journalists, families, and Irvington shocked beyond belief. This tragic event marks yet another historical event that shook the world.
