“I love reading. It helps me de-stress while allowing me to experience new worlds. Books show emotions and have taught me that every real person holds a valuable story. When I was little, my family used to read to me, and once I learned to do it myself, I read as many books as I could. I even enjoyed writing stories based on what I read.
In high school, it’s harder to read as often, especially when I prioritize most of my time to homework. However, during vacations, I can read more. I’ve also been reading to escape social media. When I’m reading a lot, I tend to finish about 2 to 3 books a week. Currently, I’m reading Sandwich by Catherine Newman, which is a touching story about family and memories.
I used to be really into fantasy, but now I enjoy a variety of genres, including realistic fiction, comedy, and mystery. Emily Austin is one of my favorite authors. Her books Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead and Interesting Facts About Space are easy to read with great narration and realistic characters. One book I believe everyone should read is The Book Thief, which is a popular book with a sad yet sweet story.
I’ve bought quite a few books over the years, and it’s a common gift for my birthday. If I’m looking for new reads, Banter Book Shop and stores that sell cheap used books are my go-to spots.
I tend to reread the books that have characters I connect to and funny or dramatic moments. Funny books and realistic fiction are always nice and comforting, so I’ll never get tired of rereading them. A series I really liked rereading was Percy Jackson, especially because the big plot points and shocking events drew me in.
Looking into the future, I think many people will turn to technology to find free online books, and becoming a writer will be difficult if AI continues to grow. Hopefully, real people will continue to write stories because AI is terrible at capturing the essence of a good book.
Books are cool! It’s okay if you don’t like reading, but I encourage everyone to try because then you’ll find something you love. Don’t let the pressure of school make you forget that books are meant to be enjoyed. Just relax, and let yourself dive into a story made just for you.”
