Don’t call me a producer. I’m a composer.
When I was much younger, my parents bought me a digital keyboard. It wasn’t long before I fell in love with it. Through YouTube videos and piano lessons with my mom, I learned basic key signatures and finger placement. Eventually, seeing how passionate I was, my parents bought me a much better piano. It was with this that I began professional classes—attending with the same teacher since the third grade, and the rest is history.
Every piece blossoms from an idea. Usually, and often spontaneously, I’ll have a vision for a melody. The difficult part is getting it out into the world. I’ll experiment with random chords that I feel will fit the work, and begin layering from there. Since my music almost never includes lyrics, I need to rely on dynamic key signatures and changing instruments to keep the music interesting. From there, I begin to materialize the piece through software. I used to use GarageBand on my iPad or desktop, but have recently begun to utilize FL Studio. Despite the manic passion for my hobby, I’d say the whole process is nothing short of frustrating. I consider myself a perfectionist, and by extension, my creative process leaves me feeling impatient. More often than not, I’m left unsatisfied with my final products compared to the prospects I’d begun with. The end product is always simply a compromise between my idea and my limitations, both tangible and imaginary. Even after I think a piece is “good enough”, I can’t help but to keep tweaking it.
As I continue to pursue music individually & through the bands I’m part of, []. I publish on Spotify under VJ: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1Qb2EFSC7XfWQaECrfwLRO?si=ihY9C7TIQ7i37BvuPbse9A..
