I was Freshman Class Officer in my first year, and now I am Sophomore Class Officer. My ASG experience so far has been amazing– my freshman year I was nervous going in, but the community in ASG was great. The seniors were always very kind, welcoming, and willing to help. The idea of always having other people there to help me grow stood out to me.Â
My favorite memory in ASG would have to be ASGiving last year. It’s our Thanksgiving tradition where we all go to someone’s house to play fun games and have a big potluck– it’s a great bonding event. Â
I think with my two years of class officer experience, I wanted to develop my skills more and set my vision bigger for the entire school and ASG class. Being Vice President, I would mainly be in charge of the class officers, who are crucial to building community with the student body in each grade level.Â
I’m really big on small things and how they impact the bigger picture. One of the main things I want to emphasize is the March Madness bracket. I worked on it last year and I’m doing it this year as well. My goals are to increase the size of this event, have more staff and students participating, and improve the prizes. I’m also trying to make it more competitive, especially with dodgeball and volleyball tournaments.Â
I think the biggest strategy that helped my campaign win was talking to people face-to-face. As much as social media and posters can help with increasing outreach, it’s about what people think of you on a personal level and how you interact with them that makes the biggest difference.Â
