As Freshman class officers, we didn’t really get our class to be as involved in year-round activities like Multicultural Week as much as we’d like to. So for next year, we want to try to make sure our class gets involved in more activities like Versus Week, Winter Week, etc.
Our freshman year actually went surprisingly well. No freshman class has ever won any of the awards like class dance, so it felt super rewarding when we were able to win one. Hopefully next year we can have a more coherent plan for homecoming. For example, we can make sure that we have a better plan of our bench setup because we did have a couple of mishaps during the day.
Being a class officer with my sister makes it a lot easier to work with each other. We have really similar ideas sometimes, but even when we disagree we can easily work it out without any conflict. I think this does provide an advantage and make our work a lot more streamlined.
In terms of being the only two candidates, I think in some ways students can benefit from more choices because it makes them feel more represented, whether it’s through their identity or goals. I do think that the student council would also benefit from a more diverse student body as well. I feel that everyone should really try to dip their toes into leadership because you’ll never know what to expect. I really only got into leadership because of my sister at first. She got me to run along with her for a leadership position, and after we were able to win I kind of just went with it.
For next year, I really hope that we’ll be able to keep our class spirit going strong throughout the entire year. Having a class council is really important, A our class councils keep our spirit and energy running throughout the entire year. Without our class councils, our energy only relies on ASG, and that does not include every single person as you kind of like to focus on the student body that is committed to leadership.
