Love filled the air at Irvington on February 13, from 7:30-9:30 PM, as Irvington’s Associated Student Government (ASG) hosted their first ever Valentine Show in collaboration with American High School. Filled with engaging acts, the show was filled with entertainment and opportunity for all attendees.
ASG first came up with the idea of the Valentine Show in December. “We originally came up with the idea while planning prom fundraisers, and it clicked,” stated Senior Class Officer Rosemary Joseph (12). “It’s unlike anything ASG has hosted before and would be really funny, so we got to planning immediately,” Joseph described.
To organize a program as popular as the show, responsibilities of planning included “logistical organization of the venue and required forms” stated Senior Class Officer Nadeen Shamoun (12). Additionally, organizing the show required adaptability from Joseph and Shamoun, remaining stable as last-minute changes were made. “The show was originally supposed to be with another guest school, but they dropped out pretty close to the date. We reached out to American’s ASG, and they automatically saw the vision for the show,” Shamoun explained.
The show itself was extremely engaging and entertaining for performers and participants, including a large variety of acts, such as cut the buzzer, guess the mole, blind dating, and a couples competition.
ASG began recruitment for Irvington participants in January. “I was approached by both Senior Class Officers in January, and after that, it was just general planning of what the show would look like,” exclaimed Anish Kanhere (10). “I enjoyed being part of the show a lot, it was definitely really funny,” Karan Mody (12) added.
Behind the curtains, Irvington students volunteered to run the show smoothly. “I coordinated the games and set up necessary props on stage throughout the show,” Ridhi Kadam (12), said. Jobs for volunteers ranged from closing and opening curtains to ticketing, covering all places where Senior Class Officers would need assistance.
ASG’s Valentine Show was an outstanding success, leaving hearts warmed and anticipation high for future renditions—where ASG is sure to create more unforgettable moments and swoon even more students.
