The girls on the volleyball team at Irvington High School are doing well, very well. Currently ranked number nine out of East Bay, this team is seriously making some noises. Not only have they beat Washington High School, their long-time rival is three games, but they have also beaten other contenders of the MVAL Championships: American and Logan High School. On the Saturday of October 2nd, the girls do it again and take home a first place win at the Newark Memorial Volleyball Tournament. Although there was an early loss to Livermore in pool play, the Vikings got lucky to still take first in their pool after Livermore lost to Berkeley, a team that the Vikings had dominated. That took the Vikings to the championships. The girls were paired with Washington, the winner of their own pool. After just playing Washington the Thursday before, this win was breezy for the ladies. Then, as a final match, the Irvington Vikings had to play California High School (Ranked 4 in East Bay at the time). The match took 3 games, but in the end, the Vikings were left standing.
