A Nervous Habit that’s almost impossible to shake off
Have you’ve ever noticed that many of your fellow classmates seem to be bobbing up and down with their rapid leg shaking? Their absent-minded shaking is actually a fairly common nervous habit that’s distracting to see, yet irresistible to do. Due to restlessness, people who jiggle their legs up and down in class to exert pent up energy after sitting still for so long.
According to Mayo clinic, no known cause for this nervous habit exists; however some researchers suspect the condition may be due to an imbalance of the brain chemical dopamine, which sends messages to the brain to control muscle movement. In truth, it isn’t the legs that are at fault, but our minds. Our bodies weren’t created to sit for extensive hours, so our natural instincts instigate movement by telling us to “shake a leg”.
