Aziz Akbari for Mayor

Eighteen-Year Old Boy Takes on the Fremont elections

By Mariam Syeda-Quadri

On November 6th, 2012 eighteen year old Aziz Akbari will be running for our Fremont mayor.  This young teen has much to say about his choice in taking on this campaign.

What was your motivation for running for mayor at such a young age?

I’ve been involved in the local political scene since the age of 8, and I’ve noticed that our city has a great deal of untapped potential that goes unrealized year after year. We need a leader who has the vision to capitalize on these opportunities and who has a vested interest in the future of Fremont.

What was your most difficult obstacle in your campaign trail so far?

At first, the most difficult part was getting people to recognize me as a viable candidate. But once the debates rolled around, people saw that I have a knowledge base beyond my eighteen years and that I have the passion and the skills necessary to lead our city forward.

What new ideas do you have to offer to the table if you do get elected?

I have a 4 point plan: bring more tech and biotech companies to Fremont, increase our retail, dining, and entertainment options, improve our educational environment by hiring more teachers and bringing more technology to the classroom, and preserving our historical districts and preventing over-development.
