By Sabrina Sun | Staff Writer

The Irvington class of 2018 gathered in the cafeteria on Dec. 11 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to participate in a gingerbread house building competition. The nine teams, who registered online, were each composed of three to four members. After 45 minutes, the finished products were evaluated by a panel of judges: Mr. Lu, Ms. Pang, and Ms. Dinh. The winners were sophomores Elaine Ton, Claire Aihara, Maya Lu, and Lucy Song.
Competitors constructed their houses using graham crackers and icing and decorated their houses with . A large variety of candy decorations were provided including peppermints, gummy worms, skittles, nerds, and marshmallows.
According to sophomore president Stacy Shen, who co-coordinated the event with sophomore Vice-President Jessica Liu, although the competition did raise some money, it was created primarily as bonding opportunity, and the $4 entry fee was mainly used to purchase materials.
“We’re looking at having it become an annual tradition because of all of the positive feedback,” Shen said, “and are excited to see if it’ll grow into something bigger next year.”
