As large news organizations have increasingly targeted school newspapers, Irvington’s newspaper The Voice, has been the latest victim of this movement. Recent articles released by The Voice have been featured in big-name news outlets such as CNN, Fox News, and ABC, attempting to diminish The Voice’s credibility.
CNN has published articles falsely accusing The Voice of ethical violations, including biased coverage, corrupt management, blackmail, and yellow journalism. These absurd allegations have sent shockwaves through the student body, leaving many doubting The Voice’s journalistic integrity.
Meanwhile, Fox News has taken a different approach, labeling The Voice as a “radical, left-wing propaganda machine,” quoting editorials regarding the potential shutdown of the DoE and DoGE. Some commentators have even suggested that The Voice is part of a broader conspiracy to overthrow the school’s administration through opinion pieces about hallway traffic flow.
ABC News, on the other hand, has ran an exclusive investigative report titled “Is The Voice Even a Real Newspaper?” The special feature spent an incredible 45 minutes analyzing whether high school journalists should be considered legitimate members of the press, once again questioning the validity of The Voice.
In response to the controversy, The Voice’s Editor-in-Chiefs, Megan Ye (12) and Francis Luo (12), held an emergency press conference on March 25. “We are simply a group of students trying to raise awareness of issues around campus and keep the student body informed,” Luo declared. “The attacks against us are baseless. Fake news.”
While The Voice faces unprecedented media scrutiny, one thing is clear: nothing will stop the relentless student reporters of The Voice from exposing the truth, regardless of any allegations or accusations hurled by news outlets or others.
