The Golden Globe’s Golden Moments

At 5:00 pm PT on January 7, 2024, the Golden Globes kicked off the new year by bestowing a fresh new batch of awards to the best features of entertainment from 2023. Here’s a list of the highlights from the 2024 Golden Globes:

  1. Ayo Edebiri – This new talented up and coming actress won best performance by a female actor in a television series (musical or comedy) for “The Bear”. Solely in 2023, Edebiri has participated in “Bottoms”, “The Bear”, “Abbott Elementary”, “Theater Camp”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”, “Across the Spider-Verse”, “Sweet East”, and “Big Mouth”. You can look forward to even more features of this brilliant actress in Marvel’s coming production, the “Thunderbolts”. 
  2. The Bear – This year at the Golden Globes, “The Bear” has been impressively nominated 5 times in best performance by a female actor in a supporting role on TV, best performance by a male actor in a supporting role on TV, best television series (musical or comedy), best performance by a female actor on TV (won by Edebiri), and best performance by a male actor on TV (Jeremy Allen White), winning the last three. 
  3. Ali Wong & Steven Yeun – Wong won best actress in a limited series for her amazing performance in “Beef”, marking history as the first Asian descended actor to do so in her category. Similarly, Yeun marked history as the second male actor of Asian descent to win best actor in a limited series for his gifted performance in “Beef”. 
  4. Lily Gladstone – Gladstone made history as the first indigenous actress to win best performance by a female actor in a motion picture from her work in “Killers of the Flower Moon”. In her speech she emphasized that the award served as an important milestone for indigenous representation.
  5. Beef – Alongside Yeun and Wong’s wins, “Beef” obtained even more recognition with its third win of the night in best television limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television.
  6. Hayao Miyazaki – Hayao Miyazaki, one of the co-founders of Studio Ghibli, was finally recognized at the Golden Globes by winning the Academy Award for Animated Feature for his “The Boy and the Heron”. This award not only marks the first for his studio, but it became the first animated film in a different language to win a Golden Globe.
  7. Christopher Nolan – Christopher Nolan, being a well-known and leading filmmaker for his many famous works, including, but not limited to “The Dark Knight”, “Inception”, and “Interstellar”, had been nominated a total of 5 times over the course of 22 years. This year, Nolan was finally awarded his first Golden Globe for his incredible directing in “Oppenheimer”. 

Oppenheimer – Last but most definitely not least, “Oppenheimer” took the 2024 Golden Globes by storm and became one of the biggest winners of the night. Winning five out of the 8 nominations, Oppenheimer’s brilliant storytelling, directing, and talented acting was recognized. Alongside Christopher Nolan winning best director, Robert Downey Jr. won best performance by a male actor in any motion picture and Cillian Murphy won best performance by a male actor in any motion picture. The movie itself won best original score for motion pictures and the best motion picture in the drama category overall.
