On August 6, 2025, Netflix released the first half of the much anticipated second season of Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, with its conclusion on September 3, 2025, with episodes 5 to 8.
Season 1 shared the start of Wednesday’s life at Nevermore, a school dedicated to outcasts, after her expulsion from a normie high school. Unfortunately, any chance for the high school life Wednesday hoped for is thrown out the window when she gets tangled in a loop of mysteries centered around the hidden past of Nevermore. The season finishes off with Wednesday ultimately defeating an evil pillager set on eliminating outcasts and fends off a shape-shifting hyde. While challenges were faced and catastrophic murders were prevented, fans were left with unsolved mysteries.
Wednesday season 2 dives deeper into these ongoing mysteries of season 1. The season starts off with Wednesday’s return to Nevermore. But things have changed since the last time she was here, she’s now popular and admired by all the students. Her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) gets more involved in her life as the chair for the Gala fundraising Committee. Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) joins Nevermore for his first year, which proves to be more difficult than he had expected as he has trouble fitting in and resorts to finding a friend in the revived Clockwork Heart of a Nevermore Legend.
As the school year progresses Wednesday is thrown into mystery after mystery from the vision of Enid’s (Emma Myers) death to the mysteries of Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital, a ward dedicated to treating outcasts and normies who have been affected by extreme mental illnesses. With each uncovered secret, her relationship with her mother only worsens. Between Morticia’s choice to steal Goody’s Book of spells, the source behind Wednesday’s psychic powers, and Wednesday’s resentment and inconsiderate actions towards her mother, tensions only grow between the mother-daughter duo. With Goody’s book gone, Wednesday loses her psychic abilities, causing her to go back to solving things the old fashion way.
With Enid’s death on the horizon, Wednesday learns the importance of friendship and teamwork. Working with Enid and her new spirit guide the late Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie), Wednesday is able to change the prophecy that Enid will die. But a new prophecy that an Addams will die appears, with things taking a turn when Pugsley goes missing. With time running low Wednesday has no choice but to turn to her mother for answers. The fear of losing Pugsley forces Wednesday and Morticia to take the time to understand each other and face their insecurities and fears. Together with her family Wednesday is able to stop the Clockwork Heart’s (Owen Painter) evil plan and save Pugsley. The end of season 2 is marked with the end of the school year and Wednesday’s decision to stay behind at Nevermore.
Wednesday Season 2 brought closure to questions from season 1 but also opened up so many new mysteries that hopefully will be answered in a third season. Although season 2 has gathered many positive comments due to its new characters and plot, fans have noticed the darker tone, setting it apart from the first season. While season 1 focused a lot on the mystery and Wednesday’s school life. Season 2 focuses more on Wednesday’s relationships with Enid and Morticia and spends more time on family dynamics and character growth. I would give the season 4 / 5 for its constant action, mystery, and complex characters. Wednesday is the perfect show to watch if you’re looking for mystery, suspense, and action but also humor and silly high school antics. Both seasons of Wednesday are available to watch on Netflix.
