It was a holy jolly time during the first week of Irvington’s 2025 Winter Weeks. Two weeks of fun activities from December 1 to December 12, perfect to relax and have fun before the stress and constant studying of finals season.
The week started off on December 1 with ASG handing out candy canes in the courtyard followed by a blind karaoke class council event on Tuesday in the big gym. Blind karaoke pitted Freshman and Junior classes against Sophomore and Senior classes in a fun and festive holiday sing off. Topics included songs that contained the lyrics Christmas and Santa, with classics like “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee, and “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande. Spectator Sachi Kadam (9) comments, “I enjoy the blind karaoke event. It was more of a sing it out loud game, but I thought it was really entertaining and lots of people were engaged.” It was a great event to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
On Wednesday during lunch, the photo business club held a winter photoshoot. On Thursday December 4, Irvington held its annual winter rally in the big gym during Flex, with events such as a pie eating contest, finish the lyric competition between classes, and a competition between some of Irvington’s sports teams. Irvington’s dance team, ICED, and choir gave amazing performances that lifted the holiday spirit of the students. Maya Bayley (10) who went to watch the rally shares, “I liked the games, they were nice, but I feel like there should have been a second round of the pie eating contest because I wanted to participate.” Spectator Olivia Li (10) comments, “I think the rally was great because it was fun to see the holiday spirit start. Whenever there’s a rally, it brings the holiday spirits up.” Rally Crew member Ananya Malyala (10) explains the importance of having a winter rally, “I think having winter rallies is really important because finals week is a really stressful week for everyone. Everyone’s just trying to get their grades up and trying to finish all their assignments, so I think the rallies definitely always do a really good job of allowing students to have fun before their tests.” Overall, the rally was a moment for students to feel the holiday spirit and rest before they start their tests.
Week one of Irvington’s Winter Week comes to an end with a lunch time ornament decorating activity in the cafeteria held by Irvington’s Visual Arts Club on Friday, December 5. Students came during lunch to create and decorate ornaments, making them have their own uniqueness.
Overall, Irvington’s Winter Week brought the school spirit up. ASG member Zoya Akbar (12) reflects, “I think the first week of Winter Week has been going pretty well. I’ve been mainly planning Elf on the Shelf, where we hide an elf somewhere on campus each day, just seeing people so excited to find the elf is really heartwarming. We still have a lot of exciting events going on and everyone should look forward to it.”
