On the evening of April 17, Irvington seniors were greeted with amazing ocean views as they boarded this year’s highly anticipated Senior Cruise. Running from 5:30 to 9:45 p.m., the event brought together the class of 2026 for an unforgettable night of food, music, and dancing along the water.
Behind the scenes, months of planning went into making this night memorable. According to senior class officer Shreen Mahanty (12), the process was both organized and collaborative. “All our events have been planned out since last summer, and as the date comes closer we progressively allocate more time towards working on that specific event,” she said. Working closely with Mr. Willer, the class officers were able to manage logistics efficiently and ensure that everything ran smoothly.
Despite the scale of the event itself, the class officers described the cruise as one of the easier senior events to coordinate. Michelle Nyugen (12) noted that “Senior cruise was one of the easier events to plan as the venue organizers worked on most of the logistics and details of the event.” She also notes that “as class officer, I definitely wanted to ensure that senior cruise provided a new and memorable experience, unique from other school dances and events.”
Planning still required consistency and attention to details in the weeks leading up to the event. Key decisions like keeping the same cruise company and Alameda dock location use in previous years were extremely important to ensure that transportation remained convenient.
However, all of that planning and effort paid off as seniors arrived dressed up and ready to have fun, filling the boat with energy despite the windy weather. Shreen emphasized that what makes the event special each year is “seeing all the seniors together, dressed up, enjoying the food and the beautiful views.”
Students echoed that same excitement, highlighting both the atmosphere and experience. “I really like the cold air and sunset while on the cruise. Everyone was so happy and I am really glad to have had the experience,” said Sundus Pathan (12). Others appreciated the food and scenery, with Joseph Tan (12) noting, “The champagne chicken was really good and the views of the bay were amazing.” For many, the cruise stood out among other senior events, with Maya Rhodes (12),sharing, “I loved the ship and route, I think this was the best school event yet.”
The sold-out turnout highlighted the strong sense of community the seniors shared. From dancing to songs together to taking in the sunset views, the cruise offered a chance for students to relax and create lasting memories during their final months of high school.
