On Tuesday, April 28, the Irvington Boys’ Volleyball team faced Mission San Jose for their last home game of the regular season. Going into the match with an undefeated league record thus far, along with it being their senior night, the crowd’s energy and the atmosphere in the gym made the game even more exciting to experience.
The game ended with a 3-1 victory for Irvington, with a loss in only the second set of the game. Head Coach Edgar Colocho mentioned a “lack of communication and focus” in the second set which resulted in a few hiccups. However, the team still came back strong for the final two sets of the game, showing resilience all throughout.
This season, the boys volleyball team has achieved an impressive league record of 13-1, a tremendous improvement from their 8-6 league record just the previous season. Captain Kenneth Trinh (12) describes this season as the best out of all four of his seasons with the team, and a high of the season being how well the team gets along on the court.
Following their final game against American, the boys’ volleyball team entered the North Coast Section (NCS) Championship, where their first opponent was San Ramon Valley. Irvington took home victory 3-1, which led them to the quarterfinals of NCS facing off against Foothill on May 7, where they then again won the match 3-2.
The boys’ volleyball team continued playing in the NCS tournament, where they faced Liberty High School on May 12. Although the team fought hard, they ultimately lost 0-3, concluding a successful NCS run.
The future of the team is bright, with both Colocho and Trinh emphasizing the strengths of the many young starters on the team already. Colocho shared his hopes for a similar season next year, and with many key players returning for the 2027 season, the team is definitely one to look out for.
