Robotics Club places 2nd place at FTC Tournament
On November 21, 2010, Irvington High School’s Robotics Club sent 3 teams to Brentwood High School in Brentwood, California to compete in the First Tech Challenge (FTC) Tournament. The teams competed against other schools in Northern California with the metallic, programmed robots they had build beforehand. These robots were programmed with LEGOS Robotics to harvest and dispense batons and were designed to be used in an army-zone environment.
The robots challenged those of teams from other schools on a 12 ft x 12 ft board that had different terrains that the robots had to traverse through. Out of the 3 teams that Irvington sent, one won 2nd place. This team, the Red Holograms, consisted of juniors: Suchaaver Chahal, Joraaver Chahal, Alex Tsang, Nicholas Yuk, Robert Kurihara, Alexis Lee and Eugene Fung; sophomores: Weiyu Tong, and Lucas Cao, and freshman Ankur Gupta. The team lost to the Piedmont Scotbotics and placed 2nd in the tournament. Other teams that performed admirably included the Auburn Argonauts. Junior Sabir Utamsing remarked, “We all had a great time at the tournament.”
