Vikings go all out in Irvington’s 2011 Dodge Ball Tournament
Four classes, twenty-two teams, and one trophy… students across Irvington high school unite and clash in an epic dodge ball tournament on March 18, 2011. The competition was fierce this year with a narrow final showdown against senior team “Monstarz” and junior team “Hit Men” for the championship round. Winners for the freshmen class were the “Masheens”; sophomore class the “Wolfbeaters”; junior class “Hit Men”; and all around champions, senior class “Monstarz”.
The heat of the competition rose as each team performed their introductory performances, which was often used to intimidate the other teams. Some of the more intimidating intros included: sophomore’s “Wolfbeaters”, who beat up a team member dressed as a wolf; junior’s “Ball’s Eyes”, who used imaginary rocket launchers to smash targets; and seniors “Snug Life”, who all dressed up in snuggies and danced to “Teach me how to Dougie”.
Although there seemed to be several quarrels between refs on controversial calls such as whether a player steeped on a line during the death match game, or whether or not a player was hit on the head with the ball, the overall matches ran pretty smoothly and was an overall exciting viewing experience.
