The first Friday of every month, the Art and Social Justice Advisory, lead by Ms. Maia Steward, organizes an open mic event at Mission Coffee, located on 151 Washington Blvd. Starting at around 7:30 PM, students and others perform spoken word pieces to a small audience. Anyone is welcome to perform their own work or an interpretation of someone else’s, but if not, everyone is encouraged to attend the event to support their peers. This, however, is not the only event this venue holds. A performance by Twilight Hotel, a Canadian folk duo, is scheduled for Saturday, March 27, one of many diverse performances hosted by Mission Coffee. Offering “…over 10 varieties of 15 blends of freshly imported Arabica beans,” beverages are aplenty.
But if Mission Coffee is too far away, Bay Street Coffee, on Fremont Blvd diagonal from Burger King, is a similarly fashioned shop that holds many small shows as well. For more information, check out their website, www.baystreetcoffee.com.
