“I decided to run for a homecoming court because I thought it would be a fun experience and let me represent the different communities I have been a part of for the last four years. I’ve spent a lot of time engaging with various clubs and groups so it felt like a good way to showcase that.
Being a part of Homecoming Court has helped me realize just how diverse Irvington really is. There are so many students across different areas, from various clubs to Color Guard to ASG, who contribute so much to our community but don’t always get recognized.
I think I was nominated because of connections that I’ve made through ASG, DECA, and VSA, which are the main activities that I am involved in. ASG has helped me grow as a leader and understand how to make a positive impact on my community. VSA was really important for me since it allowed me to build a cultural identity and strengthen a community that wasn’t there before. And then DECA has just really helped me develop personal skills like speaking and communicating.
This experience also let me step outside my comfort zone and meet new people that I wouldn’t have talked to otherwise. It reminded me how valuable it is to take risks and try new things. That’s the main thing that I’ve learned throughout high school — change is inevitable and learning to embrace it helps you grow.
I’m looking forward to senior year and seeing everyone bond and be carefree. I’m excited to see everyone form closer friendships with each other and make the most of our last year together. It feels like a time to connect and enjoy the community we’ve built.
Looking back, I’m proud of the impact I’ve made here and hope to have inspired others to take action and contribute as well. I’d like to be remembered as someone who was easy to talk to and always willing to listen. More than anything I really want to promote diversity at Irvington and highlight the voices that aren’t typically recognized.”
