When I first decided to run for Homecoming Court, I honestly just thought: ‘Why not?’ I’ve always loved talking to people and making connections and, over the years, I’ve built so many friendships across different groups at Irvington.
When my name was first announced in the top 4, I couldn’t believe it–-it was unreal. Being named Homecoming King was ever more surprising. I was speechless when they announced my name at the rally. Even now the crown sits at home, and sometimes I’ll just pick it up and wear it for a minute to remind myself of the amazing community I built.
Being nominated changed my senior year in the best way. It felt like everything had come full circle, from freshman year when I was still figuring out where I belonged to now, realizing that I had found a group of people that really see me.
If I had to name my biggest inspirations and those who most impacted my time at Irvington, it would be my friends. They’re the most diverse group you can imagine, with geeks, comedians, and just outgoing people. And of course, I owe a lot to my teachers. I genuinely believe that Irvington has some of the kindest, most passionate people in the district.
I’ve spent a majority of my time at Irvington surrounding myself with the best groups of people. They have allowed me to create the best memories that I will carry everywhere I go. My favorite memory will always be my first Dil Se performance as a member of Irvington Sitaare. I was also a part of m arching band which also played an important role in my life. As a section leader, I learned to step up and lead younger students which was so rewarding.
If I could give one piece of advice to the incoming freshman and underclassmen, it would be to always have an open mind. Listen to what others say, but don’t let their opinions define your experience throughout these four years.
As for the Class of 2026, I hope our legacy is the energy, spirit, kindness, and connection we’ve brought to Irvington. I hope our spirit and energy carries on long after we’ve graduated.
“I made it, mom!”
