I decided to run for Homecoming Court simply for fun. I truly didn’t expect anything to come from it, definitely not top 10, and especially not being named queen. When I found out I made it, I was honestly shocked. Everyone around me was cheering and recording, while I was just trying to process what was happening. It felt so surreal.
Being nominated has made my senior years much more meaningful. It helped me appreciate the people around me, from friends, classmates, and even those I’ve only had small interactions with. Knowing that people thought of me, even if just to vote for me, reminded me of all of the amazing connections we build throughout high school.
I’ve been so inspired by the seniors who came before me. Watching them lead clubs, manage responsibilities, and still remain kind and grounded made me want to do the same. Their advice and examples have stayed with me and shaped how I approached my own senior year.
Some of my favorite memories come from being involved in clubs and cultural shows. There’s something so special about planning performances, rehearsing during lunches, and staying after school with friends to make everything come together. That sense of family and friendship I discovered in VSA and FYA brings me so much joy and appreciation for my high school years.
If I could give one piece of advice to incoming freshmen or underclassmen, it would be to take every opportunity and lead with kindness. Being kind doesn’t take much, but it makes a lasting impact.
My friends have played a huge role in shaping who I am today. They’re genuinely thoughtful people who always put others before themselves, and that inspires me to do the same. I also want to shout Mr. Einfelt, who I had the pleasure of meeting in sophomore year. He’s always been such a positive, goofy presence, and he reminded me not to take life too seriously and to just have fun in the moment.
Being a part of Homecoming Court reminded me that people notice the way you treat others. It made me realize that being genuine and kind really does reach people in ways you might not expect.
I want Class of 26’s legacy to be our spirit and kindness. I hope we take every opportunity that we come across, and that we remember these years as one of our best!
“I did it, big sis!”
