DARIAN TRINH (9): “I had leadership experience in eighth grade with Horner ASB, and ninth grade as well with class council. I really wanted to expand my leadership sophomore year by running for class officer. Homecoming week inspired me the most to run, because our class really got to bond and connect through events like all-nighter and class dance.
In my campaign, I made some funny videos, and focused on getting students involved through them. The most challenging part of the campaign was the Q&A, because I had to prepare the most for that moment. With unexpected questions popping into the Q&A, I had to have good answers for them.
My main goal is to get students involved with the selection process of events like spirit days or activities, so that they feel like they have a voice and can be more involved with our class. A way I wanted to implement that was letting students vote on spirit days.
I definitely want events to be more exciting, so that all students can come to them and feel excited. Making events and activities that students actually want to go to is very important, because if they feel disinterested or find it embarrassing, then they’re likely not going to participate, and that’s something we want to avoid
My leadership style is being very open to everybody. I like to listen for feedback so that I can grow from that.
The other class officer and I have been friends for a long time, so just using our friendship and communicating often will definitely help us. Our collaboration will help us get through the school year and make sure all students have a great school year.
Something I would say to anyone applying for class council next year is to be prepared to work. Don’t think that class council is just something you can slack off with; just prepare to be active.”
