It was a big process to run for Class Officer, from planning to campaign week. Campaign week started with getting people to help me with the videos and posters that were printed. I thought voters would look for someone with a lot of energy and spirit throughout the year, so for the past year I tried to be as spirited as possible. My campaign centered on involving a lot of other people and being engaging in my videos to draw attention.
Next year, I want to involve more people outside of Class Council, especially people who typically don’t know what events are going on. To do that, I want to reach out to more people to join both Homecoming Week and Versus Week. During my term, I want to primarily focus on the Bench category and Hoco Week. For the past two years we came in second, and I want us to come in first this time. I think one way to do this is to incorporate everyone into our events and be organized with what’s coming up. Being prepared for the many aspects they judge you on during these weeks is important, as well as making sure everyone shows their spirit and attends these events.
I really looked up to our current Class Officers, but after seeing the position open up, I wanted to fill that spot and improve on what they were already doing. I like seeing the entire class come together and show spirit and that was what really motivated me to run.
The main thing that worried me was the interview. During the interview, they asked many questions about my plans for the week, the coming year, and how I would tackle challenges that came up. I think we need more media posts overall. Reaching out to people who aren’t in Class Council or don’t know the difference between ASG and Class Council is important so they know they can participate.
I’m especially excited for Homecoming Week next year because of everything that comes together; the rally, the dance, class dance, and lip sync. Being part of all that really shows how spirited the school can be.
