Last year I ran for Sophomore Class Officer, so the process of running wasn’t very new to me. Since we’re running for Junior Class Officer, not an executive position where the entire school is allowed to vote, it’s a smaller audience that’s being targeted. My main strategy for campaigning was to reach out to underrepresented students that are a lot newer to the school, asking them what their approaches are, and what they would like to see for the next school year.
The past two years, I’ve been able to gauge what our strengths and weaknesses are as a class overall. Having someone that has been able to see that and has been able to recognize what works best for our class is really important. Some other important qualities include having good time management and understanding students perspectives on different events and spirit days. For example, academics and school stress can render some students unable to participate in our activities, so hosting more easy-to-dress spirit days was one of my main ideas.
Having a strong financial base is a priority of mine. Focusing on fundraising for Prom is really important as well because we are a junior class, so we have to have a strong financial base moving forward, both for Prom and Bench overall. I want to avoid cramming all the fundraisers towards the end, so having a system with at least two fundraisers a month will be implemented.
The past two years, I’ve been able to gain experience being Class Officer, but my main reason was just so we can have a more memorable class. It’s been like a well known fact that every junior class has always had a bit of a fall off, and I want to try to prove that wrong moving forward for next year as class officer.
Furthermore, I am committed to fostering a more diverse and inclusive Class Council. We often see the same recognizable faces in leadership, and I want to change that. When application season begins, I will actively encourage underrepresented students to apply by providing them with a clear understanding of what Class Council entails. By building a diverse team, we ensure that our leadership truly reflects the entire student body. I’m very excited to collaborate with my new Class Officer pair to make our junior year truly memorable.
