All-State Honor Band Spotlight

Interview with Tiffany Lin

Freshman Tiffany Lin was one of the four Irvington students to make it into the All Northern Honor Band (North Cal). North Cal took place between January 15 through January 17. Tiffany did not attend North Cal, but she is planning on participating in the All State Honor Band in February. She has been attending All State since her seventh grade.

We asked her how the All State Honor Band was like for all the times that she had participated. “You practice a lot in the span of two days and perform a public concert on the last day,” she told us, “most of the audience are composed of band directors and parents.”
She has been learning percussion for six years, since the age of nine years. She mainly plays the Marimba, snare drum and timpani but also plays others percussion instruments such as the bells. Her instructor is Galen Lemmon, who also teaches at San Jose State. He has performed and taught in the Bay Area for 35 years and is quite renowned.

Tiffany enjoys playing percussion very much. “My favorite part about playing percussion,” she said, “is making music!”
