Athlete Spotlight: Kyle Nguyen
The Vikings Soccer season kicks off with intense practices, scrimmages, and games. This season is probably going to be the most vital one for senior Kyle Nguyen. Having played on the Irvington Soccer team for several years, Kyle has definitely grown both physically and mentally to prepare himself for the college level.
When asked how he has attracted attention from scouts Kyle says, “I’ve gone to college showcases, written to potential colleges, and I’ve also attended ID camps.” UCSD and UC Davis are two colleges that he especially has his eyes set out for. As for this season, I asked him about the things the team as a whole could improve. “I think the team should focus working on passes, since this season’s Varsity Boys team is especially smaller.” said Kyle.
With several winning games in their pocket, the Varsity Girls team looks determined. When asked on how she thought the season would proceed, junior Karina Paonessa says, “We are striving to win MVALS this season! She adds, “We also have very talented players that could possibly get scholarships if they continue to work hard.” The girls have been working hard to perform at their highest potential, achieving an optimistic start in the season. Having already played several games and scrimmages against other schools, we wish the team the best for a successful season and for Kyle to get into the college he sets out for.
